DESIGN
CHALLENGE
Student teams will design and construct a musical
instrument (wind or string). Students will optimize
their design solution to produce the desired range
of notes. A digital music recording will be produced
using their designed instrument and written onto a
conventional compact disk (CD).
SPECIFICATIONS
AND CONSTRAINTS
Specifications
- Instrument must have the desired range of notes
to play a simple tune.
- Recording will be "engineered" from
a variety of music sources (vocal, instrument and
synthesized).
Constraints
- Instrument must be either wind or string (no
percussion).
- Materials will be provided to construct the instrument.
Others can be used at the discretion of the teacher.
- Instrument must be played by the student(s) that
designed and built it.
