Music can be found in virtually
every civilization. Evidence of this has been found as far back as
we are able to investigate. There is much archaeological evidence
of musical instruments in even the earliest civilizations. People
have used music as part of their rituals, as well as to provide entertainment.
Musical instruments have evolved from simple percussion devices, to
wind, woodwind and string instruments to current devices that can
synthesize music electronically.
We even have the capacity
now to store and modify all of the music that has ever been recorded.
Although we have the capacity to alter this music and make any changes
that we might desire, instrumental music still has its place. Instrumental
music provides us with interesting diversity. The same music played
on the same instrument by different people provides us with interesting
contrasts and variations in the music. Each person can provide individual
interpretations of the music that we can find enjoyable.
