IE 441/541: Human Factors in Safety

Course Description

This course provides the student with a general understanding of occupational and systems safety. The studen learns to apply systems methodologies to workplace design evaluation, accident analysis and consumer product design, as well as gains an understanding of human error analysis, accident potential recognition, occupational safety and health legislation, and safety considerations in consumer product design. The course consists promarily of lectures, with illustrative case studies discussed and in-class readings from assigned texts. There are four homework assignments based on the readings and material covered in class, and a final exam. Professionals in industrial or fire safety may provide presentations to provide you with real life testimonials about practicing occupational safety.
