CENTER FOR THERMAL/FLUIDS ENGINEERING

                          Background

Western New York has long been an industrial center for thermal-fluids applications. These have covered the spectrum from the first rocket planes to automotive heat exchangers, from the advanced research of Calspan and Praxair to the assembly lines of Delphi Systems, API and others.

Although all of these industries have changed substantially over the past several decades, thermal-fluids engineering remains one of the bulwarks of Western New York's manufacturing economy. However the pressures of the global economy have driven even the most traditional manufacturers to seek the benefits of high technology in an attempt to remain competitive.

The University at Buffalo recognizes its responsibility to respond to this increasing need, and in forming this center hopes to create an increased opportunity to do so.
