Notable Flow Facilities
A 1-meter-diameter, 20-fan-driven truncated icosahedron turbulence chamber capable of generating homogeneous, isotropic turbulence in the center region (48 mm diameter) at a maximum Taylor microscale Reynolds number of Reλ=357, with minimal gravity effect.
0.4-meter length, 8-fan-driven, maximum Reλ=156
Related Measurement Tools
In-house built apparatus capable of measuring particle charge and particle diameter using in-line holography. Particles are non-destructively tested for size and charge by acquiring holograms of particles falling through an electric field.
A fume hood containing an automatic siever (Gilson GA-8 Ultrasiever) with a full complement of particle sieves with opening ranging from 5-45 µm (in 5 µm increments) for sieving particle samples into narrow diameter ranges.
An in-house developed system which combines two PIV systems to track particles over four consecutive frames. This combines the small time between frames afforded by PIV cameras with a doubled tracking history. This technique improves tracking accuracy.
Dantec Dynamics, Flowlite 2D, laser probe has 160 mm working distance. Can measure time-resolved 2D velocity at a single point in the flow.
