EAS 140 Unix Lab Test Information
Information about what you'll be
expected to know and do for
your upcoming UNIX quiz in lab.
Material Covered:
All the material covered in labs #1 - lab #4
- The quiz is 60
minutes. It will begin PROMPTLY at the beginning of lab. After the
quiz, you will use the next 50 minutes in lab for Maple Lab #1. Don't
leave after the quiz or you'll be clueless the next week.
- The quiz
will be "on-line", meaning, you'll be logged in and doing UNIX related
tasks. You will put your answers in an e-mail to your lab instructor
and mail him/her at the end of the quiz.
- There will be a strict time
limit enforced. For every minute past the 60 minute limit, you'll be
penalized 10 points on your quiz.
- You are allowed to pre-prepare a text
file which you can view during the quiz. You can put any information
you wish into this file which you feel may help you on the quiz.
Advice: Don't make it TOO long or you'll spend more time searching for
information than doing the quiz.
- During the quiz you may not:
- Access web pages of other students or instructors for help
- Access
or copy files from other student accounts
- E-mail, send or talk (on
or off line) with other students Any student found doing any of the
above will be asked to leave and given a 0 for the quiz.
- You cannot
write on the quiz
- You must turn in the quiz after your done with it.
- Things you may be asked to do on the quiz:

Define key terms (at
the end of the Chapters in the Unix notes)
- Send e-mail.
- Define and describe unix commands you are and are not
familiar with. (How would you find information about a command
you never used before? Think about it)
- Use Netscape to find
information and to go to Web sites.
- Print files.
- Do
file operations: create, edit, copy, rename, move, etc.
- Change
file permissions
