Professor Alexander Shik graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic in 1969 and for 28 years worked at the Ioffe Institute, St-Petersburg, Russia, heading from 1992 to 1997 the Laboratory of Nanoelectronics. Since 1997 – at the Centre for Advanced Nanotechnology, University of Toronto. The main interests of A.Shik include electronic properties of nanostructures, physical phenomena in inhomogeneous semiconductors and contacts, advanced semiconductor materials and structures for optoelectronics. He is the author of more than 300 publications, including 2 monographs. Since 1981, A. Shik presents lecture courses in theoretical and semiconductor physics, nano- and optoelectronics in the Technical University of St-Petersburg and the University of Toronto. In 1994 he was awarded by G.Soros Professorship.
