"Wireless Industry Overview"

We will review the progress of the wireless communications industry over the last 10 years.  We will discuss the current implementations of 2.5G mobile networks, and how they are evolving to 3G.  Both cdma2000 and GSM/GPRS/UMTS standards for wireless communications will be discussed.  We will also provide an overview of wireless data adoption in different part of the globe.  In particular, the following areas will be discussed:  (1) cdma2000 data evolution in Korea, Japan, and the US, (2) GPRS progress in Europe and US, and (3) UMTS and FOMA progress in Europe and Japan.   We will also highlight some of the operational and technical challenges that wireless carriers are experiencing in implementing the emerging wireless data capabilities.
