Pictures

I finally got a few train-related pictures onto my site. The locations where these were taken are from Albany to Buffalo (low bridge, everybody down)...

Up Close This is a picture of the new GE locomotives now owned by Amtrak and, more recently, Metro-North. These engines have a much different profile from older F40PH engines used by Amtrak. This picture was taken in Albany in February 1996.

Big Blue Quality Roughly 280 miles to the west along the Waterlevel Route lies the city of Buffalo. Once second only to Chicago in number of trains per day, Buffalo is still a busy rail center. This shot of a Conrail lashup was taken on a cold, snowy day in December, 1995.
Susie-Q In between Buffalo and Albany is the city of Utica, home of the Utica Brewery, makers of Utica Club, Matts, and the award winning Saranac. Utica also has the nicest functioning train station on the Water Level Route in NY State, the marvelous Union Station. This station was once used by the New York Central RR, the Lackawanna RR, and the weary New York, Ontario, and Western RR. The tracks of the ex-Lackawanna are now owned by the New York, Susquehanna, and Western RR and run south through the valley of the Sauquoit Creek, up the hills and down to Binghamton, NY. This shot was taken in Sauquoit on the ex-Lackawanna tracks in 1994 as train UT-1 heads toward Utica.

A little bit a fun on the rails...
