Current Projects

IGVC

The UBR Unmanned Vehicle Team is competing in the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition this year. The project consists of building an unmanned, autonomous vehicle that can navigate a course in the shortest amount of time. Additionally there is a course in which way-points are given in GPS coordinates and the vehicle must navigate to each one. This challenge is also time based. Check out our UVT page for more info.


Bot Wars

We compete annually in the UB E-Week Bot Wars challenge. Check out our bot wars page to see designs from past years.


Tutorials

We are hosting tutorials on a wide varity of topics on a irregular basis. We will send out notifications to department list-serv's when these will be.

Past Projects

Intro Project

A competition between new students. A goal will be set and the students will form the mechanical design, electronics, and intelligence to compete head-to-head.


Line Follower

A team of new members in the club are working on a line follower robot. The robot is fully autonomous and its goal is to follow a black line on a white floor as quickly as possible. The line patterns can be quite intricate so a simple algorithm will not function on harder patterns. Check out a few pictures pictures here.


Fire Fighter

The goal of this competition is to design a robot that will seek and put out a fire. The robot must fit into a 12x12x12 inch box and be fully autonomous. The arena is laid out like a one-story house complete with hallways, rooms, and furniture obstacles. The scoring is based on how quickly the robot finds a small candle placed in one of the rooms and extinguishes it. There are currently 60 teams competing from around the country. Robotic Tag

Robotic Tag is a beginner project intended to get new members involved and working cooperatively towards a common goal. The students will design multiple robots to participate in a childlike tag-game. They are featuring infrared and touch-sensors to detect each other as well as an IR-communication system to inform each other of their position and game status.


Stair Climber

The stairclimber intended to compete in the RI/SME student robotics challenge in the spring of 2003 will beable to climb up 3 stairs of varying height and then back down.


Sumo Robot

The goal of this robot is to push the opponent robot out of an 8-foot diameter circular ring. The robot must be able to locate the opponent while also being aware of its environment at all times. A rich sensor package gives the robot a better ability to locate and conquer its opponent. The logic that has been programmed into the robot allows it to react to a great number of possible winning and losing scenarios. Take a look at the Design in 1998.
