Beginner's Project
Line Follower
New members of the club have been learning and working on various aspects of robotics through the beginner's project.
The beginner's project is a line follower style robot that autonomously follows a black line on a white background.
The robot itself is fairly primitive but the project itself entails aspects of upper level robotics applications.
This semester and last, students in the club have successfully built a microprocessor driven version of the common line follower.
Other important concepts the students picked up from completing the project include: motor control and H-bridge theory,
infrared sensor detection, on-chip analog/digital conversion, power management, and basic autonomous algorithms.
The students also learned the Atmel AVR instruction set and programmed it using embedded C.
