Transfer student admission to UB Engineering:

Admission of transfer students to UB Engineering is coordinated through the Office of Admissions. If you have completed more than 24 college credit hours at the time you apply, your previous college academic record is reviewed. If you've completed fewer than 24 credit hours at the time you apply, your high school transcript, SAT and/or ACT test scores, and previous college academic record are reviewed.

In order to receive consideration for transfer admission to the University at Buffalo, it is recommended that students present a strong record of college study, earning a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. For admission into the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences students also need to complete at least three of the following courses: MTH 141, MTH 142, MTH 241, MTH 242, MTH 306, CHE 101, CHE 102, CHE 107, CHE 108, PHY 107, PHY 108 and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all previous major requirement courses in math, science, and engineering.

The University at Buffalo maintains several 2+2 joint admissions programs with community colleges in New York State as well as a few 3+2 programs with other SUNY colleges. These programs help students who know they want to transfer into the UB School of Engineering plan for this well in advance.

For information about how your college credits will transfer please begin by visiting Will your Credits Transfer? You will be introduced to the university’s transfer articulation system, called TAURUS, which will show you how transfer courses match UB courses and requirements; also see our handout on the TAURUS system. When you are admitted you will receive a detailed DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System) report showing these articulations. Whatever your situation however, an appointment with an engineering advisor can be helpful in interpreting this more fully.
