Details of Engineering Career Institute (EAS 495)
One Credit,Pass/Fail
Spring Semester

ECI is a course that combines Pre-Employment and Industrial Success Classes.

Prior to beginning employment, Engineering Career Institute students will have participated in an intensive industrial orientation course.

Students benefit by real world exposure to these professional subjects, having been introduced to the industrial environment before starting work assignments.

Course Highlights:

  • Job search and career preparation.
  • Essential non-academic skills for on-the-job success.
  • Experienced guest speakers from industry.
  • Optional access to Internet Job Search System ($50 prepayment required) for posting resumes and searching for jobs. Available to UB engineering and applied sciences students exclusively.

Note: 1These courses are given four times in the Fall and again four times in the Spring semesters; 2these classes are given four times in the Spring semester only. Student attends only one session of each class.

3. Grading - Pass/Fail based on:

A. 50% of grade: Attendance and participation at Pre-employment [1. above] and Industrial Success [2. above] Classes. No more than three absences allowed.
B. 50% of grade: Submission of completed class reports and evaluations at the end of the semester summarizing what was learned from classes and how it was/will be applied.

4. Registration:

Register during your assigned Spring registration period over MyUB or BIRD. Come to SEAS External Affairs, 415 Bonner Hall, or a ECI/Co-op orientation session, for course number and class materials.
