Job Description

Part-time summer internship for a Public Health Intern whose duties will be the collection of beach water samples, delivering samples to Erie County Public Health Laboratory, obtaining results of testing and reporting those results (via electronic data input) to the New York State Health Department.

• $10/hour salary

• 8 hours of work Mondays and Thursdays throughout the swimming season (May 1 to Sept. 15)

• Sampling conducted at 8 Lake Erie beaches. Samples will be taken in water that is 3-feet deep.

• Coolers, sample bottles, ice packs, etc. will be picked up from the public health lab on Grider Street, and returned to the lab the same day after sampling.

• Training in proper sampling, preservation, chain-of-custody documentation, etc. will be provided by the Division of Environmental Health Services.

• Individual transportation required. Reimbursement will be at $.36/mile.

• The intern will be working as a fee-for-service contractor, with no insurance benefits or workers compensation.
