Assistant Research Scientist
Salary: $32,660/yr
Grade: G - 14
Location: Center for Environmental Health, 547 River Street, Troy, NY

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree and one year of professional
research experience in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Public Health or a related field. Thirty graduate credit hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong computer skills, including experience with word processing, statistical, spreadsheet, data management and Geographic Information Systems software. Excellent communication and analytical skills. Experience with managing and mapping environmental, health outcome and demographic data.

Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for managing health outcome and exposure data and providing descriptive statistics of the data. This will include determining the exact locations of the exposure sites, mapping the study areas and the residences of cases of disease. The incumbent will use Geographic Information Systems and automated and manual geocoding methods to perform some of these tasks. In addition, the Assistant Research Scientist will abstract information from death certificate records.
