The New York State Center for Hazardous Waste Management

The New York State Center for Hazardous Waste Management was established by New York State Law in 1987 (Chapter 489) to initiate and coordinate research and development in the area of toxic substances and hazardous wastes. The law calls for the Center to provide a solid foundation for improved hazardous waste management practices in New York State. The Center has developed, through university-industry partnerships, a comprehensive program of research, development, and outreach activities. The Center's Business-Industry Affiliates Program (BIAP) provides an opportunity for the private sector to become closely involved in the activities of the Center by helping to establish the direction of the Center's research program, as well as the Center's educational outreach and technology transfer efforts. To date, the Center has funded over 50 projects conducted at academic institutions, businesses, and industries throughout New York State. Most of the projects awarded to academic institutions have industry partners that share in the cost of the research. The total cost of the research program to date exceeds $8 million, with the Center share of this cost matched by the combined contributions from participating institutions and industry partners. Center projects have contributed to advancements in several area, including:

Project summary reports are available for these projects and others that have been supported by the Center.
