Alan J. Rabideau is currently Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at State University of New York at Buffalo . Dr. Rabideau received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame (1979), an M.E. in Civil Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo (1986), and Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1994). While a graduate student at SUNY Buffalo, he coauthored the feasibility study which led to the formation of the New York State Center for Hazardous Waste Management. Prior to and during his doctoral studies, he worked as a consulting engineer with O'Brien & Gere Engineers, Inc. on a variety of environmental projects, during which time he acquired his Professional Engineer license. He joined the faculty of SUNY Buffalo in 1993. Dr. Rabideau's current teaching responsibilities include courses in groundwater engineering and environmental engineering design.

Dr. Rabideau's research interests include the mathematical modeling of flow and reactive contaminant transport in groundwater, subsurface remediation, numerical methods, high-performance computing, and decision and risk analysis for environmental systems. Current funded research projects include the modeling of surfactant-enhanced aquifer remediation, experimental and modeling studies of low-permeability barrier materials for subsurface remediation, modeling of soil washing for removal of heavy metals, and the impact of inactive hazardous waste sites on water quality in the Niagara River. Dr. Rabideau frequently collaborates with colleagues in the Environmental Engineering program and in the Department of Geology on projects which involve numerical modeling.
