What is BEAM TREK 2010 –
The GO GREEN?
The GO GREEN?
BEAM TREK 2010 will be an educational adventure creating awareness and interest in engineering with a focus on using alternative energy sources. Teams of high school students compete against one another as they are challenged by University of Buffalo (UB) faculty to prove their scientific and mathematical mettle in a brain-teasing race around the campus. Not knowing what to expect, students find themselves having to complete various engineering tasks where they earn points and also learn about conservation in order to obtain clues as to where their next task lies. The adventure’s climax is a head to head competition between the highest scoring teams in a final GREEN task. All this adds to the fun with one team earning the distinction of being “Buffalo’s Best GREEN Engineering Team of the Future”.
BEAM TREK 2010 helps to teach students the value of planning, listening, and teamwork. The overall themes of diversity and environmentally friendly technology will complement each other helping to create a better and greener future.
BEAM TREK 2010 is a whole day event entirely held at UB consisting of two parts; a day program for the students at UB who actually perform the race, followed by an after event “GREEN social” where students, parents, UB faculty, sponsors and volunteers will have the opportunity to network.
BEAM TREK 2010 will be the GREEN education event of the year for students and adults alike! It’s sure to be what everyone will be talking about for years to come.
