The University at Buffalo Human Factors chapter is one of the oldest student chapters of human factors engineers. It was founded over two decades ago for the best interests of the student community at University at Buffalo. Both graduate and undergraduate students representing various  interests such as Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Anthropology, Occupational Therapy, Cognitive Science and Mechanical Engineering are our members. This diversity is one of the main reasons of sustained life of the chapter and better research.

Even though initial interest was professional interaction through this chapter and exchange of research ideas, after two decades the club has evolved into a close-knit professional group.

Some areas of research in Human Factors at University at Buffalo are:

1. Physical ergonomic stressors in dynamic work situations, evaluation of ergonomic interventions, musculoskeletal epidemiology, and engineering design for injury/illness prevention and anthropometry of those with physical disabilities.

2. Cognitive Engineering, Human decision making and System design

  1. 3.Aviation maintenance and safety and Application of human factors techniques to manufacturing and maintenance processes.

The National Human Factors and Ergonomics Society is an interdisciplinary professional association of more than 5000 people involved in the human factors/ergonomics field. Since its formation in 1957, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society has promoted the discovery and exchange of human factors/ergonomics knowledge, as well as education and training for students and practitioners. The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society is part of the International Ergonomics Association, a federation of similar organizations around the world.
