Class III test problems are challenging examples of engineering design problems. They include analysis codes for more than one engineering discipline and have solutions which have a physical interpretation. In some cases, these problems require analysis codes which are restricted or proprietary or require unusual computer resources. Class III test problems have a large number of design variables and constraints and are computationally expensive. Thus, Class III problems are useful for demonstrating MDO concepts and for motivating MDO research.
