ERIE-REU

REU in Ecosystem Restoration through Interdisciplinary Exchange

Applications for the 2012 ERIE-REU are now being accepted until March 1, 2012.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the program, students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must be enrolled as undergraduate students in a college program through fall of the following year. We cannot accept graduating seniors. The program has no GPA requirement and looks for students who are the best fit for that summer's research projects (to view 2012 summer research projects click here). Although applicants need not be science or engineering majors, students should have taken basic science and mathematics courses.

Application Process

The application consists of 4 parts:

  1. Application form.

  2. Official transcript. Applicants must arrange to have an official transcript sent to the ERIE-REU office (202 Jarvis Hall).

  3. Letters of recommendation. Applicants must provide two (2) letters of recommendation from college/university faculty.

  4. Brief Resume* and Personal Statement**. This document should not exceed 3 pages in length.

*Resumes should include the following information:

  • A list of all post-secondary educational institutions (with corresponding dates) attended;
  • A description of research and teaching experience or other university or science activities (Note that prior research experience is not a requirement);
  • Any other information that the applicant feels will be relevant to consideration of his/her application.

**Personal Statements should describe the applicant's academic and research goals and long-term career objectives. Personal statements can be very helpful in demonstrating an applicant's interest in ecosystem restoration, especially if the applicant cannot demonstrate this via coursework. Applicants should clearly articulate what they hope to get out of the program and how they believe the program will help them reach their short- and long-term goals.

All documents may be sent via email (PDF format preferred) to ugrad-erie at buffalo dot edu. Alternatively, hard copies of all documents may be faxed or mailed to the ERIE-REU office:
