The Design Project Course (MAE 459) is required for seniors in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. It is intended to provide a “capstone” to a student's academic experience and to allow him/her to tackle an in-depth engineering design problem.

In the course, the student will work with one or two other students to solve a design problem which might involve small consumer products, large production equipment, materials and manufacturing problems, computer packages for automating the design process, mechanical components, or overall system problems. Early in the semester, a representative from the sponsoring company will present and describe the design project to the student group. This representative will also evaluate resulting design.
