Orientation

Welcome to the EngiNet™ Graduate Distance Education Program. Courses are delivered streamed via the Internet (or on CD with special permission only). To receive your courses streamed, your computer will need a broadband connection such as DSL (through Verizon, or your local telephone company), or a cable modem (through Time-Warner Cable, or your local cable provider).

The following will provide you with the information required to get started as an EngiNet™ Distance Education student. Please be aware,  you are responsible for all the information covered.


UB Card

All students registered at the University at Buffalo are issued a UB Card that contains a unique Person Number, Library Number and UB Card Number. On campus students receive a plastic student ID card that is called a UB Card. The UB Card contains information (Person Number, Library Number, and UB Card Number (ISO Number) that allows you to access your student records using MyUB,

access your course work using UBLearns, the University wide course management server via "Blackboard", as well as utilize the University's vast online computing and library services.

If you are a first-time student to the University at Buffalo this semester, you will be emailed your UB Card information. If you are a returning student this semester and do not have your UB Card information, please contact the EngiNet™ office,

and the information will be forwarded to you.

You are not required to come to campus to obtain a UB Card, however, any student who wishes to come to campus to obtain their UB Card may do so by going to a UB Card office. The UB Card Office has two locations on campus; The Commons, Suite 211, on the North Campus or Harriman Hall, Suite 104 on the South Campus. The card office is located in The Commons. Please enter the Campus T store and proceed to your right. Please bring photo ID such as a driver's license or passport.

UBIT Computer Account

All registered students have been issued a UBIT computer account. You will need to activate your UBIT email mailbox. Please be aware that the university requires that all UB communications to students be sent via your @buffalo.edu account. You can elect to have these emails forwarded to your personal accounts. Instructions for activating accounts and forwarding email are available on the following website:

UBLearns

You will be accessing your streamed lectures through a program called UBLearns. Your professor may use UBLearns for course information, even if you are receiving lectures by CDs (the CD option is availble only with prior approval). Registered students will be automatically enrolled in their course(s) on the official start date of the course(s). To get started in UBLearns please use the following website:

The only email accounts that UBLearns interacts with are University at Buffalo email accounts. Therefore, home or work accounts such as AOL, Hotmail, and Yahoo, cannot be used.


UBITName

If you do not know your UBIT Name, you can access this information from the following website:

If your information is not available, it is likely due to your selection to "not publish" your university information, perhaps done years ago. To request this change, please complete the form from the following Student Response Center website:

UBITName Password

If you've never used your account, your UBITName password should be your four (4) digit birthday (mmdd) followed by the last six (6) digits of your UBCard number. For instance, if your birthday is June 16th and the last six digits of your UBCard are 123456, then your password should be 0616123456.

Downloading Streamed Recordings Of Lectures

Please be advised that your lectures will remain available for the length of the semester only. Downloading must be completed during that time period. If you require the recordings after the semester is over, you will be charged a processing fee.
