Catalogue Description

A field experience working on a civil engineering project in a practical setting (consulting office, governmental agency office, company plant, etc.) under the joint guidance of a practicing engineer and a faculty advisor. Projects are selected that integrate the material learned in academic courses. A written report, an oral presentation and attendance in a technical communication seminar are required.

Course Objectives/Outcomes

The Civil Engineering Internship is a work-experience course and is counted as a 3-credit technical elective in our BS (Civil) degree program. It is intended to provide students (interns) an exposure to the practice of engineering in real world. Interns are expected to work the equivalent of one day a week during the semester (fifteen full days, thirty half days or any other equivalent work schedule). Emphasis is on applying the knowledge acquired in course work to the practice of Civil Engineering and learn the techniques of making sound written and oral technical presentations.
