Directions
for Logging in to your CSEE User Account for the First Time
Important! Read
this notice!
- If a
computing session is active, log out by pressing <CTRL><ALT><DEL>
and selecting the "Logoff" button.
- Press
<CTRL><ALT><DEL> to log in. You will be presented with the
logon window.
- In the
"Username" field, enter your Engineering UNIX user name (this
assumes you have an engineering Unix account!).
- Tab down
or use the mouse to select the "Password" field.
- For
your First login only: In the "Password" field, enter your eight digit
SUNYCARD Person Number (unless otherwise instructed by your advisor
and/or computer lab staff).
- Make
sure the "Domain" field is set to CIELAB. If this field
is set to any other value, select the field and use your mouse to select
the CIELAB domain.
- When
all information is correct, select <OK> with the mouse, or press
the <ENTER> key. The CIELAB domain controller will process
your logon information.
(Note:
The next four steps only have to be performed for the first logon, unless
you change your password again)
- The
statement "You are required to change your password at first logon"
will appear. Select "OK".
- When
prompted, enter your Engineering UNIX password in the "New Password"
field.
- Tab
down to the "Confirm New Password" field and reenter your new password.
Select "OK".
- If
you properly completed the above steps, the message "Your password has
been changed" will appear. Select "OK".
- For
any of the subsequent dialog boxes that appear, select "OK"
(Note:
The next step needs to be performed the first time you log onto a specific
PC; Subsequent logons to the same PC will not require this step to be
performed.)
- Make
sure the Netware Preferred Server field is set as <None>. Select
"OK"
- Your
Windows NT logon script will execute, establishing drive mappings and
cleaning up the local hard drive.
- A prompt
will appear asking you for a password to a server named DESTINY; re-enter
your Engineering Unix password at this point.
- Note
that drive I: is now mapped to your Engineering UNIX directory.
You will be able to store files (up to 30 mb) here and access this directory
from any PC you log onto in the lab, as long as you correctly entered
your Engineering UNIX password as described above and the Engineering
UNIX file system is functioning properly.
- When
you finish your session, press <CTRL><ALT><DEL> to log out.
Select "Logoff" from the button field. Your session will be closed.
- Note:
if you do not log off, your Unix home directory will remain open to
the next user of this PC.
- The next
time you log on, you only need to supply your username, password, and
domain (CIELAB).
It
is strongly recommended that
You create a folder named CIELAB
within your UNIX home directory (drive I:), and
you store all your CSEE department files there.
The department is NOT responsible for files stored
in any other location, unless special arrangements are made
with a specific instructor relevant to a particular class.
