Principles of
Engineering Management I & II

Graduate Courses EAS 521 & EAS 522
Dr. Carl Chang, MBA, Adjunct Professor

Grading Policy

Students who are enrolled in these courses should attend all classes. They are expected to spend another 3 - 4 hours per week to review course materials, prepare for in-class discussion of engineering management cases, pursue the independent term paper assignment, and redy themselves for the final examination. The overall course load consists of the following components:

•  An individual term paper which is focused on an engineering management research topic. The term paper topics are selected by the students and defined by the instructor in order to minimize duplication. See examples of term paper topics worked on by students in the past.

•  Two to three engineering management cases are adopted to augment the lectures. Students are to actively participate in class discussions and to submit short write-ups afterwards. See examples of engineering management cases discussed over the past several years.

•  The final exam, a take-home and open book test, involves the comprehensive analysis of an engineering management case, in which the key engineering management lessons learned during the semester are to be applied.

Besides asking questions during the class, students are encouraged to regularly communicate with the Instructor via emails. See examples of Questions & Answers Exchanges in the past. Students' final course grades are determined by the 35%, 20%, and 45% of the grades of above-described components (1), (2), and (3), respectively.
